Summary
Ooru is about nineteen years old! She is calm, but so calm that people think she is a ditz because she doesn't react to things in a very timely manner. She is also very skinny and gets dizzy from bending over too quickly, because Ooru doesn't eat very much.
Ooru's hair is black, and her skin is copper. Her gaze seems to focus just a little past the person with whom she is carrying on a conversation. She doesn't care about your personal space or her own, but she does care about you!
She wears simple clothing that is kind of rainbowy.

- Ooru was discovered by space penguins, who then turned her over to native Saturnians. She was considered 'Feral' for her time amongst the whales.
There wasn't a whole lot of taming involved despite Ooru living in the wild atmosphere of Saturn for seven years. Space Whales are pretty mellow as a whole and if anything, Ooru was good at meditation because of her experiences.
Oh yeah, Space Whales have their own language, and they can hold their breath long enough to circle the moons of Saturn and return to the planet's atmosphere. There's some physics-based turbulence around their bodies that allow them to slowly propel themselves with giant swishes of their tails beyond gravity itself.
Space Whales have four eyes but mostly look like regular blue whales, except they are five or six times bigger and meteors have left pockmarks in their armored skin, oh and it's possible for people to hunker down inside of their mouths and mooch their oxygen. Also, you can see their insides from outside, as their skin is transparent, and so are their muscles. Electric fields and aurora surround their forms and give them multicolored outlines. Passengers have one of the most ridiculously psychedelic views of the solar system ever.
So I guess in the end the Space Whales are a lot different from real whales. Anyway, these are what Ooru considers her true family.

SO MANY OF THEM. This is her life.
- Background:
- The moment newborn Ooru was lost overboard so many years ago, she fell into the mouth of a passing whale. It was kind of like a rebirth: She couldn't breathe, and suddenly she could. Ooru heard the whalesong. It filled her life.
Eventually she learned that the whales were aware of her, and could actually pass her from one mouth to the next so she never ran out of new personalities to talk to. Also, mysteriously, vacuums don't matter around whales, so a person can kind of drift a bit in OUTER SPACE without imploding when going from whale to whale.
Ooru was kind of a toy and breath of fresh air to the whales. In fact, they regard her as a princess, and expect her to carry their wisdom to the human race. Their main message is "OUUWWWAAAAUUURRRR oooowwwEEEeooooo *clickclick* ROOOOOoooOOOooOOOAAaawwwruuuuu."
Which means: "LET US BE PALS."
Ooru learned a lot of stuff that she can't articulate in words. (Carl Sagan and Steven Hawking would approve, though.)
Eventually she is going to teach everyone about space whales, but only when she learns how to speak Human intelligently.
One last thing. Ooru has no idea if she's a reincarnated person. Space Whales are fuzzy about this whole 'soul' idea so Ooru never learned it. She just learned about this feeling of one-ness with everyone.
If anyone proposes the idea of reincarnation to her, she's probably going to write it off as "Well yes, I am part of everyone, and everyone is part of me, and we are all part of each other and SPACE TIME CONTINUUMS" except this philosophy will be spoken entirely in Space Whale so nobody will understand!
- Quirks:
- Energetic about pacifism.
Adamant vegetarian, and does not realize that space krill are animals and that she is KILLING THEM and so are the SPACE WHALES.
Her reflexes are not necessarily slow. Ooru has learned to experience everything to the limits of what her body can take. So, even if she felt like she was freezing by touching some ice, she would further explore the sensation of 'frozen' by holding her hand there until it turned blue (or someone was like "omg what are you doing" and stopped her). Ooru only does this with new sensations, or unexpected ones.
She can focus for a really, really long time, but once Ooru is overly familiar with something, she tends to start looking past it for new things. Once she's worn out a new friend, for instance, it's time to ignore them for new things! Yes, Ooru is very susceptible to novelty, but only until the novelty wears out.
She is in tune with the universe, but it's A-Okay to question how in tune with reality Ooru is.
- Darkest Secret:
- One day, the Elder Whale is going to teach Ooru that all Space Whales originally came to Saturn via black hole on Earth, from the distant fuuutuuuurrree, and that it is Ooru's job to go educate their primitive ancestors too. Educate them in what? Oh who knows. Whale stuff. You know!
Until that day, Ooru's secrets are everything she cannot properly articulate.

- Ooru would close her eyes and experience the sensation.
- Special Skills and Aptitudes:
- Ooru can yell really really really loud, loud enough that everyone hears her over crowds, music, and chaos.
Whales also respond to her calls, and often swoop in for amazing rescue sequences. Did you know the smaller ones can totally scoot around in the air below the atmosphere just fine? The bigger ones have trouble with that, but calves especially can frolic where they please (provided they get permission from Mama Whale).
Also Ooru can hold her breath for fifteen entire minutes, and endure a great deal of pressure and excitement while doing so.

Space whale calves are golden!
The younger they are, the more opaque they are. A very young Space Whale is not see-through at all. The older they get and the more they expand, the more transparent they become.
The oldest of all Space Whales is a titan who might be over 1000 feet in length or something dumb like that, and the clearest, most colorful view of the solar system can be seen from its mouth, which is also stupidly large. This elder whale has the gravitational pull of a moon and other space whales get stuck in orbit around it.
Human beings have never seen nor heard of the Elder Whale. Not even Ooru knows about him. Her. It. The other space whales take great care to deflect attention away from the possibility that there is a moon-sized invisible thing lurking in the atmosphere.
Ooru alternates between hanging with her whale homies and visiting random Saturnians.
